How to develop a deeper connection with ourselves?

Updated: Mar 1

It’s a fantasy to believe in a relationship without conflict so that you can “live happily ever after.” Love and conflict go hand in hand. Conflicts are an integral part of being in a relationship. We feel more connected with our partners when we learn to deal with conflict effectively and by being attuned to them. This allows us to be emotionally connected to our partners.

What are the three Cs in a relationship?

The three Cs in a relationship is Communication, Compromise, and Commitment.

Which out of them do you do well? Which “C” do you need to work on?

Developing a connection with ourselves helps us to build healthy bonds with others.

Here are some of my practices:

·       Being observant of my thoughts since our thoughts create our reality. Whenever I think about my past or future, I let it go as it is merely a thought and bring myself into the present moment by finding a resource in my body. I either get in touch with my breath, my sensations, or any of my senses.

·       Acknowledging my experiences and deeds every day by writing them down in a self-gratitude journal.

·       Being scrupulously honest with myself about my role in a situation or a conflict. This allows me to take ownership of my role in the conflict rather than blame others. This isn’t about listening to the inner critic but being compassionate toward myself.

·       Being in touch with my emotions so that I am not inflicting my moods on other people.

·       Checking on myself several times during the day to know what I need at that moment.

·       Having regular dates with myself by either going for a walk in nature or enjoying that cup of tea in my garden.

Being patient and kind with myself when things haven’t gone the way I wanted them to be by reminding myself of my abilities and how far I have come on my journey
